What does it take to become a Physiotherapist?

✅ 1. Complete an Approved Qualification

🎓 Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhty), Duration: 4 years full-time, Admission is competitive.

📘 Alternative Pathway

  • If you already have a relevant undergraduate degree, you may be able to apply for an accelerated or graduate-entry program.

🏥 2. Clinical Training (as part of the degree)

  • You must complete clinical placements. Learning on the job with real patients! Supervised by registered physiotherapists.

  • These may occur in public hospitals, private practices, or other community health settings.

📝 3. Register with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand (PBNZ)

🔄 4. Ongoing Requirements

After becoming registered:

  • You are expected to complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD) regularly to maintain competence.
